The Leather Colour Doctor is a leading name in leather care, with an exceptional range of products to repair, restore, dye and protect your leather goods.

However, our expertise extends beyond leather care, as we also offer a selection of high-quality fabric dyes suitable for a variety of projects.

Formulated especially for cars, this black fabric dye restores worn and faded carpets within a few minutes.

This professional dye is perfect for use in car boots, footwells and all high-traffic areas where carpets are likely to fade the most.

How To Use The Product

  • Begin by vacuuming your carpets to remove dust and dirt. Ideally, you should shampoo the carpet to get a deep clean as this ensures the best results.
  • The dye can be applied using a mist spray, sponge, or brush, although it's best to spray on the first coat and allow it to dry before adding further coats.
  • The brush or sponge is used to spread the dye evenly, making sure to follow the direction of the nap.
  • As well as being great for carpets, this dye can be safely used on other fabrics, like denim, cotton, wool, and canvas.
  • If darker shades are required, repeat the process until you achieve the desired effect.
  • Any excess dye must be blotted with a clean cloth to stop it from bleeding into other areas.
  • Allow it to dry, then use a hair dryer or heat gun for approximately three minutes to set the dye and form a seal.

As with all dyes, you should test a small amount on an inconspicuous area first.

The headliner is the technical name for the padded, foam-backed fabric that lines the roof on the inside of your car. These can easily become discoloured over time, and although they can be cleaned you can also choose to dye them.

The Leather Colour Doctor's black headliner dye is essentially the same as the carpet dye above and can be applied the same way.

It's an excellent means of transforming the inside of your vehicle, making it appear clean and crisp again.

This product is ideal for black convertible car roof hoods and soft tops on boats.

It comes in concentrated form and can be diluted if necessary. It is a copolymer acrylic that is quick-drying and easy to apply. Although it is air-drying, it is also thermo-setting, meaning that a hairdryer (or heat gun) is used to harden the dye.

How To Use Canvas Dye

  • The canvas should be thoroughly cleaned with a mild detergent to remove any dirt and grime, then allowed to dry.
  • Any areas not to be dyed (bodywork or windows) need to be masked with tape.
  • Working methodically, paint from the centre of the front, working from side to side and moving towards the rear.
  • Try to keep a wet edge - this means that you'll need to work fast enough to avoid overlapping strokes and create a smooth, even flow of dye. Any drips or splashes must be wiped immediately to avoid staining.
  • Badly faded canvas may require a second coat, allowing 24 hours for the first coat to dry.
  • Once the final coat is dry, use a hairdryer/heat gun to set the dye.

As always, test a small amount of dye on a hidden area before use. It's also a good idea to apply a waterproof coating for extra protection.

Please note: this dye is not suitable for vinyl or vinyl-impregnated fabric!

This uses the same formula as our carpet dye but is diluted 50/50 with warm water for dip-dying, although it can be used neat for darker colouring

You can deepen the colour of faded black sofas, handbags, clothes or denim products by dipping them or using block printing, stencil or batik (wax resist) methods.

How To Use

  • Using the method of your choice, apply to clean fabric that is lighter or a similar colour to the dye.
  • Allow to air dry for 72 hours, or iron on the reverse for 3 minutes on 'high' to set the dye.
  • To make the dye more colourfast, use a speed set solution.

Add as many coats as necessary until you are satisfied with the results. Once dry, the fabric will have a soft, luxurious feel.

Many of The Leather Colour Doctor's dyes aren't suitable for nubuck and suede, as they are sanded to make them 'fuzzy' on the surface, making them much more porous than normal leather.

However, we do have a beautiful range of suede and nubuck fabric dyes, so if you are thinking of adding colour to upholstery, clothes, handbags, shoes, gloves, or even car interiors, we've got the perfect product for you.

What's more is that they are scratch and scuff resistant, so they protect your suede and nubuck as well as renovating and revitalising them.

This is a water-based dye that's very easy to use. The high pigment content ensures easy coverage with minimum effort, ideal for restoration or re-colouring projects.

Instructions For Use

  • Clean the surface thoroughly with a suede brush and make sure it is completely dry.
  • Make any necessary repairs at this stage (browse our range of products for more details).
  • Apply a light first coat using a sponge or pad, then leave to dry or lightly run a hairdryer over the surface for a quicker drying time.
  • Add more coats until you are satisfied with the results. For a smoother, more professional finish, use an airbrush to build the layers.
  • Use a suede brush to raise the nap evenly across the surface.

Colours vary from deep black to white snow, with all shades in between, including intense blue, bright green, carmine red, and golden yellow, so there's sure to be one to suit your taste.

Although leather care is our forte, we are proud to offer these dyes for certain fabrics around the home and for the car. These high-quality products are safe and easy to use, allowing you to express your flair for design or simply restore and renovate treasured belongings.

The Leather Colour Doctor specialists are keen to share their knowledge with you, so if you need more information about any of our stock please use the 'contact us' facility on our website.
